This is so beautiful, and so deeply moving. The way you describe starting over as what’s left after life has quietly taken so much is both heartbreaking and true. It honors the reality that grief does not disappear just because time has passed.

I especially loved the quiet mercy of the porch, the solar lights, and the cicadas still singing. Those small details hold so much survival, and hint at hope despite the losses. Thank you for writing this with such honesty.

Right behind you Carol and realized there's really no 'there' to get to. This is part of the journey for me and yes, I'm eternally grateful for this solo life I lead.

Sometimes I daydream about - over there somewhere. But really, it's about this new life I'm in.

Nothing you shared here sounded depressing or sad to me. It felt as if you've come into your own in some way. Thank you.
