I’m happy, I turn another year older today.
As a child, I could hardly wait until my birthday came. Now those birthdays come around way too often. But I’m happy and plan to celebrate another year of life. It’s a wonderful gift and I plan to make the best of my time…what’s left of it.
Is it Rude to Ask a Lady her Age?
When I was younger, I was told it was rude to ask a lady her age. I never really understood that reasoning, unless a lady doesn’t want to grow old and show her wrinkles. I have to admit, I’ve felt intimated in my past telling someone my age; but not any more. I was born in 1950; in the middle of the 20th century. I turn 71 years young today.
I don’t feel a day older than when I was 50. The years crept up on me, but overall it’s been a good life. I haven’t experienced much drama or hardships. I’ve always had a job, good food to eat, a nice home to live in, good health, and a good family that I’m proud of. But there’s more to come.
I feel that my best years lie ahead of me. Even though we are living in uncertain times and a dangerous world, I’m not going to let fear rob me of the things I want to do with what time I have left on earth. So, I decided to stop listening to all the noise about losing America as we once knew it. I just don’t want to worry about something I can’t do a thing about. So, I choose to live and be happy.
So, What Am I Gonna Do For the Rest of My Life?
Well, I’ll tell you in order of importance.
My priority is maintaining my mental and physical health. I eat well and sleep about 9 solid hours a night. I walk about a mile a day for exercise and writing inspiration. Also, I garden, do house work chores , camp, fish, and take care of 3 dogs and 3 cats. So you see, I keep physically busy. On the mental side, I’m careful about what I allow the media to feed my mind. I know there are horrible things that go on in the world, but I feel that what I don’t know about…the better off I am. Even though I use social media to promote my writing endeavors, I still limit how much social media and blue lights I want to expose to my aging eyes. Without them, my dreams would be crushed.
Spread love around. I believe that in the end, love is all that matters. You can’t take your material possessions with you when you leave this world anyway. When I talk about love, I’m referring to love your home, love yourself, love your country, mother earth, humankind (all people) and animals. If you are capable of loving like this, then you can’t help but love your creator. Acknowledging our Father God is most important to live a life of faith. Without faith of a good future, you are doomed.
I plan to be a happy camper. I love camping and meeting new people who like to rough it. Fortunately, the majority of campers are good-natured and have a pleasant demeanor. I think it’s because they are out in nature enjoying the beauty of the earth. Since I have a vegetable garden growing, I camp locally around Toledo Bend and East Texas area, which is within a 100 mile radius of my home. I can go camp for 5 or 6 days, write my stories, read, listen to music and get my physical exercise in. All these things make me happy. So, I deserve the title of being a “happy camper”.
Other than the above mentions, I plan to be a life-long learner. I’m hoping to learn some new skills along the way. I especially appreciate the arts and crafts of olden days. Someday I would like to learn how to weave a basket out of longleaf pine needles. And I know exactly where I can find the longleafs too.
Lake of the Pines in East Texas is loaded with Longleaf pine needles.
