Materials to make your own bed
I purchased a Promaster Cargo Van to build out into a camper van. I watched several You-Tube videos to see how others built out their vans to get some ideas.
I began building out the van in March 2020, soon after I was laid off from my job due to Covid-19. It was a blessing unexpected, so I could have the time to work on my project.
In the beginning, I built out a double-size bed for sleeping two people. I purchased a 6” Lucid memory foam mattress from Amazon, after viewing a video of a woman who recommended this product. It was a good choice for me. I’m well pleased.
The first bed was designed to store camping gear and various other tools etc, but the bed was too high off the floor for my convenience. It was too difficult for me to get in and out of the bed and I was concerned about an accident occurring.
I decided to make some changes and build out a single twin-size bed. I used the same Lucid mattress and cut it to size (36” wide) and 65” long. I have plenty of room for sleeping comfortably.

This is what my mattress looked life after I cut it with an electric knife. The bed is firm and very comfortable to me.
Making the bed frame
The bed frame is made of 1x4 slats positioned on 2x4 legs at a comfortable height for me. I still have enough room under the bed to store my essentials. However, I reduced my load. I didn’t need as many items as I thought I needed to begin with.

It’s important to note the slats provide air circulation to prevent mold. It’s a better way of building out a frame for a bed. It’s simple to do.
I use my bed for reading, writing, and sleeping of course. I could have built it closer to the floor and used it as a couch or sitting area, but then I would have not had enough storage area.
It’s all good like it is and works for me.
Writing Online Tips
I became interested in writing online in 2010. As I was trying to find my way through trial and error, it was not until recently I learned about the most important skill to be successful at writing online.
Consistency is the key.
Being consistent is not easy. But it begins with setting your priorities and write regardless of what comes up.
I found that I write best early in the morning, so I find time to write then.
Everyone is different. Writing reflects on our moods and thought patterns. Sometimes, I jot down ideas that influence me to write something interesting. I like using the pad and pen best, but I’ve been known to use the apps on my cell phone.
It took me a long time to realize that my writing doesn’t have to be perfect. What is more important is to write to the point as quickly as possible without rambling. Internet readers have very little time to read.
I’m learning how to work with SEO and one of the main factors is writer’s consistency. But with so much to learn, I just write what I enjoy and hope my reader finds value in my articles.
I would be thrilled if someone reached out to me and ask a few questions about building out a bed for a van. I know from reading on Reddit, there are lots of people who want the van life and don’t know how to get started.
I hope everyone has a good week and a pleasant Labor Day weekend.
Thanks for reading!
