Three Simple Ways I Prepare My Food So I Stay Healthy and Strong
I believe my food is my medicine.
I believe my food is my medicine.

Are you like me, you get tired of preparing food and deciding on what to eat? Sometimes it’s easier to pick up takeout, but not always. First of all, it’s a chore to go and grab takeout when it could be easier to just prepare yourself a nutritious meal or nibble on something at home.
I like to snack lightly
I like to keep peanut butter and crackers for those times that I want to kill a hunger pain and keep right on doing what it is that I’m working on. It usually works for me just fine.
Then there’s the smoothie that always does the trick, plus gives me the vitamins needed to supplement my diet. I keep frozen berries, pineapple, and bananas on hand to make my smoothies. Plus, I include other powder vitamins in the blender. Along with peanut butter, a smoothie and a handful of nuts, I feel I’m feeding my body pretty well.
I usually cook for just myself
I cook a lot of my meals in a crockpot. Usually I’m up by 6 am getting ready to meet my day and this is when I decide to put a chicken with vegetables in the crock pot. I may fix a salad and put it in the refrigerator. Later on when I’m too busy to cook and worry about healthy eating, my meal is already prepared.
I always eat breakfast, so I have energy for the day. After drinking a cup of wake-up coffee and taking care of my dogs, I will fix some oatmeal or scrambled eggs and toast and get my day started. I’m glad to be retired and not have to be on a rigid schedule so I can relax and enjoy my breakfast and read as much as I want to.
I bake and grill outdoors
I like the old-fashioned way of cooking cowboy coffee over an open fire. The smell of fresh coffee beans is heavenly. Coffee just seems to taste better outdoors fixed that way — especially if you have someone to enjoy the coffee with.
I like to grill fish and vegetables over an open fire or grill. It’s a creative art to learn how to pace yourself to take it easy and be patient until the food gets cooked properly. It’s worth it in my opinion.
Sometimes I order takeout, maybe a pizza or Chinese food. But I’m a little reserved about eating out too often. Since I don’t know what goes into my food, I just feel better if I prepare it myself. And, yes, there is an exception to this. Occasionally I get in a situation where I don’t have a choice — and eat out. When this happens, I will usually chose something simple to eat and enjoy the moment.
