The Fear No One Talks About After Retirement
I thought retirement was going to look different than it does.
My plan for this week is simple:
Get up early.
Write something honest.
Let the sunshine in.
Keep moving toward whatever comes next.
At 76, security matters—but so does purpose.
I want enough money to live, but I also need a reason to get out of bed.
Writing gives me that reason.
This week I wrote about retirement fear, money, loneliness, and the strangers who make the road feel less empty.
If you’re carrying some of those same fears, you are not the only one.

I was on the road for 8 years. I drove a 1994 35' Fleetwood RV and worked in various campgrounds and state parks as a workkamper. I loved it, but it was a challenge at times. Now I'm 77 and thinking of doing it again. Health issues are the only things holding me back right now. Hopefully those should be taken care of soon. In the mean time, I love your writing, it takes me back and makes wonder if I can do it again???? Thankyou!
Getting out of bed can be an issue for a retiree. I guess the question is: What am I going to do today? I had that same issue, but I found hobbies that keep me busy and give me something to look forward to.
One of my hobbies is technology. I love learning about new apps, especially the ones everyone is talking about. My son introduced me to Substack, and I absolutely love it. I enjoy reading, and I've even started writing. I never realized writing could be so much fun.
