Los Angeles, California Provides Safe and Affordable Parking Lots for the Homeless from 7 P.M. to 7 A.M.
Legal parking areas, reduce the risk
Los Angeles has come up with a plan to provide safe parking lots for homeless people to stay at night.
Legal parking areas reduce the risk of harassment from police, ticketing or towing.
Some parking lots provide security personnel to minimize the threat of violence and crime. Homeless are grouped with other homeless who are just getting by until their life changes for the better. Some parking lots provide access to restrooms and showers.
They also provide connections to social services, including job placement programs, healthcare, and housing assistance.
Safe and secure parking lots provide immediate relief to the homeless while working towards long-term solutions.
The Positive Impact of Safe Parking Lots
The homeless are growing in numbers by the day. People just can’t afford the rising costs of rent, so they are evicted with no place to go live except in their vehicle. As of the latest estimates in 2023, the homeless population in the US is approximately 582,482, just a little over half-a-million people. This information comes from HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Los Angeles has a tremendous estimated homeless population of around 69,000 in early 2024. The City Officials are recognizing the positive impact of providing safe parking lots to its residents. Some parking lots are funded by the local government, non-profits or by private donations. It cost very little or nothing to park in the safe parking lots.
Most of the safe parking lots open at 7 p.m. and close the following morning at 7 a.m. I know it must be aggravating to move on and find someplace to spend the day, but at least most of the homeless feel safe at night and can hopefully rest and sleep well.
I’m thrilled to share this information with my readers. You never know, you and I may become homeless one day and need a homeless parking lot. Or you may meet a homeless person that you could share this information with.
If you liked my article this week, please comment below. I would like to hear what your thoughts on safe parking is. Do you think it’s a good idea for all concerned?
Thanks for reading!

I love this post especially in these trying times in our country. The line “they are just getting by until their life changes for the better “ is full of heartbreak and hope at the same time. I am reminded of “but for the Grace of God go I”. Late at night on Nov 5 as I got ready for bed, I promised myself I would start a new habit of thinking about all the good things in our world, instead of concentrating on despair and hate. This is certainly added to the list. Thanks .
This is great information, Carol!
