I’m From the Old School: It’s Hard Communicating with New Slang Terminology
Speak and write in a way to make your point clear.
Speak and write in a way to make your point clear.
Words are so important. We not only communicate with words but also we communicate with body language, gestures, written words etc.
Are you seeing a change coming on with how we communicate online. I have.
Some words like “kickass” or “tanking it” doesn’t set well with me. I would rather read a more descriptive word to get the point across. Tanking it is a recently new word used by the younger generation to express their feelings about something. I still don’t fully understand the meaning behind “tank it”.
It’s embarrassing sometimes when I comment on a post to ask the writer what do they mean by certain slang words. Or some writers even use acronyms and expect the reader to know what they mean. That’s not good. Please don’t assume that I know what you may know. Be polite and explain your acronyms.
Is it necessary to use the F*** word to get your point across
Not with me, it’s unnecessary. I lose a little respect for the writer. But maybe the writer is not writing to me. I thought about that too.
As a child growing up in the 50’s era, they prohibited profanity around women and children. It was ok for a man to cuss around other men, as it was portrayed as being “macho”. Tough! I’m happy men had the respect not to curse around women and children in public places or at home.
It made for a more pleasant world for children to grow up in.
It makes for a better world. Who wants to listen to all that ugly profanity? Not me. I would rather you speak to me with clear tones mixed with a few kind words. Young children express themselves by learning from their parents and others.
Speaking a negative language is almost as bad as using profanity
We all know that the world is in an awful shape. We know life is not fair to everyone. But speaking down and hating the world will not make your world any better. Some people may not realize their thoughts project their intentions and those negative thoughts make those intentions come true.
I’ve been guilty of using gloom and doom words until I noticed I need to change my vocabulary. Regardless of how dark life may seem, we all have some blessings that we need to focus on. I’ve felt happier from eliminating negative words from my mind and my vocabulary.

Take Away
Some things need to stay in place. Old School values serve us well (some of them). I’m not against making progress and change, but do we have to curse in our public schools and in our court rooms to communicate or get our point across? No, I don’t think so.
And being “mad’ is no excuse. There is a positive word to replace a negative work that works much better to get your point across. You don’t have to cuss up a storm to let your steam off. That’s a learned behavior that you can unlearn. If you want to!
