How Van Life Fuels My Novel Writing
Van life offers solitude and it's perfect for writing and thinking.
Have you ever wondered if you would be bored traveling solo in a camper van?
I’m never bored or lonely traveling and camping with my 15-year-old male Tibetan
Terrier that I call Thumper. I adopted him back in 2019 from animal rescue in Tucson, Arizona.
He’s my trusted companion, a wonderful traveler, and always by my side watching while I write. I’m happy I have an audience.
Van Life and Natural Creativity
Van life exposes me to new environments and I meet some real gems along my path. Interesting people I mean.
Van dwellers are some of the friendliest and happiest people I’ve ever met.
It must have something to do with being out in nature and observing the beautiful scenery. It’s a source of creative inspiration for me while writing my novel and Substack posts.
Open skies, full moons, July muggy nights, soft summer rain, and early morning coffee does something magical for my soul. Oooh and the beautiful sounds from the early morning birds. It’s breathtaking.
Simplicity of life on the Road
As I’m aging and facing the last stage of my life, freedom from flying distractions are important to me. I love the balance of the serenity of natural surroundings while I use my gray camper van as a writing retreat.
When I get in the flow of writing my novel and sparking my imagination, it’s a comfortable feeling. So, I look for more creativity in my environment.
Here are some useful tips for productivity while writing prose.
Connect your cell phone hot spot to your laptop and don’t forget the charger
Only bring your essential writing tools. Most tools are accessible online anyway.
Bring snack foods and plenty of beverages. Bring food that is easy to prepare, so you can focus on your writing tasks, instead of cooking so much.
Be sure to get your exercise in and make time for daydreaming and working on your writing goals. We need to keep our brains healthy and our blood pumping. Rest and sleep are so important to keep your energy levels elevated.
Also, I make sure I block out time for Substack notes and reading other’s work. That’s a big part of my life also. I work to keep it all simple and organized while seeking inspiration and reflecting on my life.
Thanks for being here!
Kindly,
Carol
