A working cell phone is a necessity in today’s world. Most everyone has one.
A smart phone is just like having a mini-computer in the palm of your hands. Since a lot of our business can be taken care of by utilizing email and text messaging—-or with a phone call and a credit card, we may still need a post office box to receive important documents.
Options for postal service if you are homeless.
The USPS general delivery is a free, temporary mail service provided by the USPS for individuals without a fixed address. This service is particularly useful for those experiencing homelessness, as it requires no application and provides a way to receive important documents, job-related correspondence, and maintain communication while working towards stable housing.
Many homeless shelters and community organizations offer mail services for individuals without a permanent address.
The USPS allows homeless individuals to apply for a PO Box under certain conditions, providing a more permanent mailing solution.
Specialized Mail Programs. Some cities have implemented dedicated mail programs to address the unique needs of homeless individuals. Mail is tracked and must be signed out with ID. Notifications are sent by email twice a week.
