Love this issue. It was a big decision to buy your van online. I would have been very skeptical and made sure I drive it first. Do you feel comfortable driving it? Do you need special license for it?
I wrote this post over 4 years ago and decided to repost yesterday.
Yes, I feel comfortable driving it in places not so crowded, but I get nervous on the interstate where people drive reckless and crazy. I try to avoid as much high traffic area as possible. And no I don’t need a special license to drive it.
I’ve shifted my direction a little bit. I’m focusing heavily into aging topics. So many Americans are wanting to go the van life or car camping, but the highest interest is directed more toward retirement, aging comfortably, living the last chapter of your life etc. I’m getting more engagement in that area, and now I’ve written one 17 page ebook and promoting it on Gumroad.
I hope you’re doing well and I look forward to attending your workshop on June 18. take care!
I like your new direction. It is still connected with your camper van because both topics are integral part of you. In a break at the moment. Will respond in detail later.
I feel very comfortable driving it. No, I only need a regular driver's license to drive it and I get cheaper insurance because it is a recreational vehicle. The app helped me learn more about the vehicle over in person viewing I believe. Since I checked out the credentials of the car lot, I felt confident. Plus I saved a lot of money and they gave a one year warranty. I had a little problem with the ac and they did pay for the service and repairs. Because of their honesty, I will refer them to friends and family and look there for my next vehicle.
I hope you're enjoying your vacation Neera. I was diagnosed with covid last Sunday. Im getting much better, but I'm experiencing "brain fog". And I was vaccinated in 2020. I'm not afraid, because I live my life on faith. Have a great week, Neera!
Love the details. I went with a different gamble and bought a ‘94 e350 with a 7.3 diesel that hadn’t run in over a decade for $1200. It’s worked out well. I enjoy your sharing.
Thank you Dave. Is that Diesel costing you an arm and leg yet? Just wondering, but if it hasn’t run in over 10 years and runs great now, I think you got a killer deal for $1200.
Running great, probably $3k in it running and converted total. Gets 16-20mpg so it’s a wash $$ compared to a gas one at 12-14mpg. Fuel prices and current events have affected my mental state and constricted my typical summer festival schedule. I need to empty a house and get out of the taxes/insurance.
Emptying the house may be a good idea. You can live on less and be happy on less to take care of giving you more freedom. And those taxes and insurance just keep climbing every year. Especially the big insurance companies, they are outrageously expensive. I think more people are realizing the benefits of living off the grid and reducing their stress levels.

Ok. Neera, that sounds good.

Thank you for this Carol. By now you are an expert van camper.
Hi Cyn,
Yes, i’m pretty much an expert after 6 years of traveling. I’ve learned how to navigate the best spots and best travel strategies to feel safe.
