How Can You Have Clean Running Water and Ice in a Camper Van?
I use a small 12 volt pump connected to a 6 gallon bottle for my running water.
Ice cold water is my beverage of choice while living in t he desert. First thing in the morning, I fill my 50 oz metal container with ice and spring water which holds the ice for 24 hours. I make sure to drink all of it before the sun goes down.
Did you know water can cure many of our health problems?
Letting yourself get dehydrated can be dangerous—especially in 113 degree heat. I carry 10 gallons of water in the camper van with me when I travel. There is a built in sink connected with a 12 v pump and a 6 gallon BPA free plastic bottle from which the water is pumped and the sink drains into a separate 5 gallon plastic bottle. I can easily disconnect it and empty the dirty water.
I use this water from the 6 gallon under sink bottle to wash my hands, dishes and general clean up. Then separately I usually carry about 3 gallons of clean drinking water for coffee and cooking. This water system works well for me, as long as I don’t waste water and I don’t.
I never open the water faucet and let the water run freely, like maybe I would at a house kitchen. Water is valuable.
The camper van has 2 refrigerators, with one connecting to 110 volt electrical outlet and the other connects to a 12 volt outlet. The 12 volt refrigerator looks like an ice chest, but can freeze ice.
I keep it plugged into my cigarette lighter while driving down the road. And when I stop for the night to rest, I’ll plug it into a generator.
I’ve discovered an efficient way to manage my water supply, keep ice and drink 64 ounces of water everyday.
Writing Desk
A writing desk is vital for me to write consistently. My desk in the camper van is 24x 30 inches made of butcher block wood and is attached to the wall with a piano hinge. It can be easily folded up. I keep writing tools handy and set myself up to write when I first wake up in the morning.
I have everything laid out in front of me to “Just Write”. So, I do!
I’ve never written a book before, but always wanted to. I didn’t realize that writing a book involved so many learned skills. I thought someone just wrote from their imagination. Oooh was I wrong, as I’m finding out now.
After watching numerous you-tube videos, listening to pod casts, taking writing courses, I’ve mustered up the self-confidence to write.
So, I’m writing a fiction novel about a homeless veteran who lives under a bridge. At this stage I’m working on developing my POV(point of view). The aim is to decide what tense you want to write in and what voice you want to use. And goes a little deeper, I’ll need to decide if I want to use a limited or deep POV. It’s a skill to make the choice for your reader.
I invested in an 8 week course; The Eight Crafts of Writing to learn how to write a book. It’s been so helpful. I’m getting valuable feed back from the instructor and my writing peers.
Conclusion
Managing my water system in a camper van is easy. I keep plenty of ice for drinking at least 50 ounces of ice water everyday, so I can stay hydrated.
Writing is a craft that requires writing tools. Watching you-tube videos about writing is a great tool. Since I’m not teaching school at the ;moment, I turn on the smart TV, log in to You-Tube and search for Robert McKee (author of Story) and choose one of his numerous videos that help me develop an element of my writing. He does a wonderful job explaining how to create tension and conflict in my plots and sub-plots.
I recommend searching a variety of authors on you-tube and soon oyou will find a voice that “clicks with you”.
See you next Friday!
