Homeless in the August Heat
My heart goes out to all the homeless people in California. It's a disgrace for America to tolerate this.
I live in Louisiana where it’s brutal this time of year with the heat and humidity. I get nauseous when I go outside and try to work in my garden for just fifteen minutes at a time. My body tells me to come indoors and get out of the heat so I can avoid a heat stroke. Oooh, how thankful I am for AC!
But the homeless people don’t have that luxury of air conditioning, unless they go into public places to cool off. Some cool off by throwing cold water on their faces and drinking ice water. That helps, because I’ve done it myself. But they are being pushed out and harassed by the police to move on someplace else. The homeless person is in the way of tourists in Las Vegas and police give them 48 hours to move someplace else.
Homelessness has gotten out of hand in America
As a responsible citizen and a caring human being, I want to help in some small way to eliminate homelessness. I I or you could just help one person, then we’ve done a good deed. I’m sure there are other places in the world where homeless people live, but my research focuses on America, Canada, Germany and Australia.
I watch countless you-tube videos about homeless people, and most are homeless because the rents have increased so much that people cannot afford to pay, so they are evicted. The largest population of evictions are people over 55. Those folks who are on a fixed income cannot afford the necessities of life with the current inflation and rising prices. It saddens me and I wish to see someone take some action and work this problem out.
Can the government handle the homelessness problem?
Our politicians choose to ignore the growing problem of people living on the streets and suffering with lack of bathroom facilities and housing. Imagine being a senior with crippling arthritis living in their car, or in a tent on the side of a busy street with hundreds of other noisy people where you can’t get rest and the care you need. It would be a nightmare and on top of if have to suffer with the August heat.
I know there are other people like me who pity the homelessness, but don’t do anything to help. It’s predicted the homelessness population will grow to 250,000 by 2026 and if something isn’t done about it, the number will keep growing.
I plan to help in my own small way
I advocate for people who are in a crisis move away to a less populated area and start living in your car or better still get a van or camper if you can afford it. There is a huge population of people living on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) in Arizona and one could join in the community and live a better life.
There’s help to get you started if you feel lost and don’t know what to do first. I will post videos on my sub stack; how one can move out of a crowded homeless camp and go where you can live a healthier, peaceful life while finding a home to live in.
The homeless man in the picture above has all his earthly belongings in the shopping cart and spread out on the ground where he sleeps. He may get a small social security check or food stamps so he can eat. This photo is one of several thousand homeless people living in California, Denver, Las Vegas and North Carolina.
Why do we let this problem continue to grow? Why doesn’t someone help? America is better than this to allow such shame on our country. We are suppose to be a country that honors God and our people.
Please share your comments and let me know how you feel about homelessness in America and what you think would be the solution?
Thank you and I will write more next week about being homeless.
Take care,
Love,
Carol
