2 Reasons Why I Limit Myself with Digital Products
Too much blue light can harm your eyes and negatively affect your brain.
Too much blue light can harm your eyes and negatively affect your brain.

I was diagnosed with dry eyes about 2 years ago. I wondered if the computer screen was having an effect on my eyes. I suspected it did.
I purchased some glasses that were suppose to help with the blue lights. I wear them while working on the desktop. I can’t really tell if they help or not. However, my eye specialist told me if I look away from the screen every 30 minutes, I should be ok. I hope that is correct advice.
Regardless, I limit my time on devices. Even if my eyes are not negatively affected by blue lights, it’s good to move away from electronic devices and move the body.
I’m not one who likes to sit for long periods of time and sit still.
There are two reasons why I limit myself to digital devices.
I want to maintain my health.
Mind stimulation.
Maintaining my health
After prolonged periods of time sitting at a desktop, I begin to get tension in my shoulders. Then I get stressed. Afterwards, a headache follows and then leg cramps.
Also, my eyes begin to burn and hurt.
Nature didn’t design the human body for sitting long periods of time. I did try the stand up desk, but usually end up sitting down to get my job done. Finally, I realize the best option is to work in 30 minute increments and take a break, then go back and start again. That strategy works pretty well for me.
I’m happy that we can do a lot of our work on the cell phone and tablet. I’ve found that I get a lot done in the bed upon waking in the morning. I may check my bank account or my email for a few minutes. This helps save me a lot of time. The smart phone was a good invention, but we still need to be aware of the physical dangers.
Mind stimulation
Sometimes when your mind is not stimulated it starts to wonder to happier times. While nostalgia is perfectly normal, it can also be a time waster. We may want to surf the net to find music from yesterday, or look at old photos of family and friends, it can be damaging sometimes.
Social media is the perfect tool to get us off track by looking into the past, putting us in a slump. Stop dwelling on emotions too much and start acting and looking at the future is a good piece of advice.
And all those phone notifications can give us overwhelm if we let it. As we age, our reflects aren’t as quick and smooth as when we were younger. Our eyes can’t focus as fast. Since realizing this I limit my choices on digital products.
I do watch you-tube videos. It’s my trusted go to place when I need to learn something concerning repairs or learning a skill. I think we are fortunate to have such a service. I’m always surprised that you can find out anything on YouTube.
Take Away
We all need to limit our time with social media, digital products and go out into nature and experience real life. I recently read an article mentioning that mental illness improves if one will spend just an hour a day in nature. And the second best thing is to watch nature videos to give you that feeling. I’ve not tried the nature videos, but I think I will put it in my background for white noise.
